- Inspect the rough opening for square, plumb, and rot - we'll flag issues before reinstalling
- Hang the new door slab or pre-hung unit, shimmed at hinges and strike side
- Weather sealing on exterior doors (foam-backed weatherstrip + threshold caulk)
- Latch + deadbolt alignment so the door closes cleanly without lifting or slamming
- Hardware swap (handle, hinges, strike plate) if you've supplied new pieces
- Old door + packaging hauled away to the Kelowna Glenmore landfill

Doors are the part of a house people interact with every day. A door that slams, sticks, or won't latch is a daily reminder that something isn't right. A properly hung door is invisible - it just works.
We measure twice, shim until it's plumb in both planes, and don't leave until the door catches the strike from any angle. Exterior installs get the full weather seal - foam-backed weatherstrip on the sides, threshold caulk underneath, drip cap if your trim doesn't have one. The number on the quote is the number on the invoice.
Common questions
Do I need to buy the door first?+
Either way works. If you've got a specific door picked out (Home Depot, RONA, Windsor Plywood), have it at the property the morning of the install. If you'd rather we source it, send a photo of the opening + a description of what you want and we'll bring a quote with door options. Materials are billed at cost + 10%.
Will the new door fit my existing frame?+
If you stick to standard Kelowna sizes (28", 30", 32", 36" wide), yes. We measure during the booking and confirm the dimensions match. If your frame is non-standard (older Kelowna homes from the 60s-70s often are), we'll switch to a pre-hung install instead - same-day if the frame is rebuildable, otherwise we'll quote the frame work separately.
What about doors that stick or won't close properly?+
Most sticking doors are settling - the frame has moved a few millimetres and the door now drags the jamb. We diagnose on arrival: sometimes it's a shim adjustment ($95 hourly), sometimes it's a hinge rebate, occasionally the door needs a strip planed off. We'll quote the fix before reaching for the planer.
Do you do exterior doors in winter?+
Yes, year-round. Winter installs take an extra 30 minutes for proper weather sealing - we wait for caulk to skin before stepping away, and we don't leave the rough opening exposed to wind for longer than needed. If your install lands on a - 10°C day, we'll prep the materials inside the house first.
Will you haul away the old door?+
Yes. Door + frame + casing goes to the Glenmore landfill or, if the door is in decent shape, we drop it at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore on Hardy Street. Hauling is included in the price.
